SPRINGFIELD — After shocking the field in last year’s Region 24 Tournament, the Danville Area Community College women’s basketball team started a drive for a second straight NJCAA Division II National Tournament berth.
It looked good to start as the Lady Jaguars took a 34-29 halftime lead over Lincoln Land College, but the Loggers used a 25-7 third quarter to get a 65-54 win in an Region 24 quarterfinal on Wednesday.
Keiara Gregory had 26 points with six rebounds for DACC, while Wariya Alhassan had 10 points, 12 rebounds and four steals, Rylee Dowers had seven pints, five rebounds and five assists, Jillisa Briggs had six points and three rebounds and Julissa Danglade had five points and four rebounds.
Marley Smith had 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Loggers, while Avrie Schmidt had 12 points, Megan Harrell had nine points, nine assists and eight rebounds and Sam Lindhorst and Durbin Thomas each had nine points.
The Lady Jaguars end the season at 16-14, while the Loggers are 25-6 and will continue play in the tournament this weekend.
