DANVILLE — Danville firefighters responded to a reported large fire in the 300 block of Chandler Street at around 5:27 p.m. Sunday, March 17.
Firefighters arrived to find the one-story, wooden-frame vacant house at 314 Chandler St. to be heavily involved in fire. The first arriving crews attacked the large house fire, while additional arriving firefighters battled several spot fires that were occurring from the embers being blown around from the main fire, including on the roof of a nearby residence and many ground fires, according to the Danville Fire Department.
The high winds contributed significantly to the spread of the spot fires.
The fire was eventually brought under control. The home was a total loss.
Firefighters remained on scene until 8:04 p.m. Sunday.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There were no working smoke detectors present. No injuries were reported.
Estimated dollar loss was $5,000.
Assisting agencies were Ameren Illinois, Arrow Ambulance and Danville Streets Department.
