First-year head coach Shelton Gandy will start this year’s football season off on a personal note as the Wildcats host the Quitman Panthers in a season opener set for 7 p.m. Aug. 29.
Coach Gandy, who was named head football coach at Meridian High School in January, has been the Panthers’ offensive coordinator for the previous two seasons.
As fans arrive at Ray Stadium, they will notice several new upgrades to the stadium in a new turf playing surface and a new video scoreboard.
Following the season opener, the Wildcats go on the road for a three-game stretch. On Sept. 6, the Wildcats travel to Biloxi, Starkville on Sept.13, and face Tornadoes in Laurel on Sept. 20.
The Wildcats return to Ray Stadium for a matchup against Callaway on Thursday, Sept. 26, followed by another home game on Oct. 4 against Harrison Central.
MHS faces a familiar foe in Oak Grove as they travel to enemy territory on Oct. 11. The Wildcats return home on Oct. 18 to celebrate Homecoming in a game against Northwest Rankin.
The Wildcats travel to Petal on Oct. 25 in a matchup with the Panthers and former head coach Marcus Boyles.
Senior Night will take place on Nov. 1, 2024, when the Wildcats square off against the Brandon Bulldogs before taking the road to close out the regular season against Pearl on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024.
