VALDOSTA— The Valdosta Wildcats are rolling into regional play with an undefeated 5-0 record, fueled by two big road wins to wrap up their regular season. They pulled off a nail-biting 35-28 victory over Tampa’s Jesuit High School Tigers, followed by a solid 27-14 win over the South Gwinnett Comets.
Head coach Shelton Felton is proud of his team’s performance but knows the most demanding challenges are still ahead. “We just have to stay healthy and play together as a team,” Felton said. “We have to play around each other and take it one game at a time.”
With regionals only a week away, Coach Felton is confident that sticking to the basics will bring the team far. “If we just play Wildcat football and play together every Friday night, I’m liking our chances,” he added.
Felton pointed out many standout players, including quarterback Todd Robinson, whose impressive accuracy —over 70% —has been a cornerstone of the Wildcats’ strong season.
Felton also highlighted Eli Lewis in the passing game, with Deron Foster and Marquis Fennell also being essential contributors on the field. Together, they have led an offense that has been tough for any opponent so far.
The first regional game is a must-watch showdown against the Camden County Wildcats, who also sports a 5-0 record. The “Wildcats versus Wildcat” matchup, set for the 27th at home for Valdosta, is sure to be a battle of wills, with both teams vying for the upper hand in regional play.
Felton left a final message for the fans: “We’re expected to show up Friday night and put our best foot forward. The goal is to win the region championship.”
