NORTH MANKATO — South Central College is the recipient of a donated commercial truck and trailer from Volk Transfer of Mankato.
The two pieces of equipment will be used for behind-the-wheel training, a critical part of the college’s commercial driver’s license class.
The used vehicle and trailer are valued at $40,000. The combined donation was handled through the SCC Foundation.
CDL is a relatively new component of SCC’s customized workforce education program.
“Thanks to this generous donation by Volk Transfer, students will have access to a vehicle right here at the college, rather than having to use their own or an employer’s truck,” Kristin Underwood, SCC’s director of customized workforce education, stated in a press release.
The CDL training meets the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s requirements, implemented in February 2022. SCC’s program is also WIOA certified allowing state or federal funds to be applied to the program when working through the Minnesota WorkForce Council.
“It is with great excitement to be able to continue the Volk mission in supporting the Mankato region by donating a truck and trailer to SCC North Mankato campus, to help meet a critical need in their CDL program and address the truck driver shortage across the region and nationwide,” Troy R. Volk, president and CEO of Volk Transfer, stated in the press release.
