Marshall earns NHSBCA honor
Recent Pinkerton Academy graduate and 2024 Eagle-Tribune Baseball Player of the Year Jackson Marshall has been selected to the 19-player National High School Baseball Coaches Association (NHSBCA) All-Region 1 Team.
Marshall was one of three New Hampshire players selected. The team also featured two players from Massachusetts, one from Maine, six from New York, two from Connecticut, one from Vermont and four from Rhode Island, including Player of the Year and Louisville recruit Griffin Cain from Bishop Hendricken.
NIL for Tam
Phillips Academy record-setting track athlete Tam Gavenas of Andover recently picked up his first NIL (name, image and likeness) deal with COROS. The company, “specializes in designing, manufacturing, and retailing specialist performance-focused GPS sport watches for outdoor sports.” Track and distance running are listed as their main focus, but they also manufacture bicycle helmets.
Thornton will be missed
Safe to say that those involved with Pentucket athletics — and across the Cape Ann League — will miss former athletic director Dan Thornton, who is moving on after 21 years with the school.
Longtime co-football head coach and head boys lacrosse coach, Dan Leary, said: “THANK YOU to the absolute best! A great leader, mentor, and friend. Mr. Thornton made Pentucket athletics a community that everyone wanted to be a part of. Thanks for everything Dan, you will be missed at Pentucket.”
Head cheerleading coach and assistant softball coach, Julie Freitas, said: “Mr. T, truly one of the best and you are going to be SO missed. I was lucky to have you as my AD as a student (best senior internship ever) and to get to work with you as a Coach. Thanks for all you have done and continue to do. It’s not a goodbye, it’s a see you later!”
Captains Corner
The high school sports spring season has come to an end, but we at The Eagle-Tribune still want to honor the area’s high school captains as part of our Captains Corner series. Coaches — or parents or the athletes themselves — who would like their captains featured are welcome to submit a photo to dwillis@eagletribune.com. Photos should have all captains featured and ideally in uniform.
One Final Thought
As Michael Muldoon used to say, “If you can bring a smile to someone’s face today, just do it!
