Taylor lights up HNIB
Goalie Julianna Taylor of North Andover delivered a monster showing in the Hockey Night in Boston Girls Major Showcase last week.
Taylor, playing for the Mass. Public/Catholic team, posted five shutouts in five preliminary round games — she was the only goalie to accomplish that feat — and surrendered just two goals total for the tournament as her squad advanced to the semifinals.
Taylor is heading into her senior season at North Andover High, and is a three-time Eagle-Tribune All-Star netminder for the Haverhill/Pentucket/North Andover (HPNA) hockey team.
Arndt featured
Former Central Catholic record-setting pole vaulter Maddie Arndt was featured this week by NCAA.com, discussing how athletics and her NCAA postgraduate internship helped set her on her path in athletic communications. She currently works in the University of Connecticut (UConn) athletic department as director of development operations.
The full story can be found at NCAA.com/news.
Arndt, a 2014 Central Catholic graduate, still owns the second best girls pole vault in Eagle-Tribune area history, with a 12-0 to win the EMass. Division 2 title as as senior. The two-time Eagle-Tribune girls track All-Star went on to star at Manhatten College, hitting a personal record of 11-9.75.
More Knights offers
North Andover High offensive/defensive lineman Nick Ottaviani and running back/defensive back Ben Iglesias have picked up football offer from Saint Lawrence College.
The 2023 Saint Lawrence football roster featured two locals — offensive lineman Finn Murphy from North Andover and tight end Josh Larson of Pelham.
White at No. 1
Former Phillips Academy phenom Thomas White has been named the No. 1 overall prospect in the Miami Marlins organization — and the No. 46 overall prospect in Major League Baseball — by MLB.com.
So far this summer, White is 3-3 with a 2.84 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 76 innings between two Marlins single-A affiliates.
Captains Corner
The high school sports fall preseason is officially underway, and we at The Eagle-Tribune want to honor the area’s high school captains as part of our Captains Corner series. Coaches — or parents or the athletes themselves — who would like their captains featured are welcome to submit a photo to dwillis@eagletribune.com. Photos should have all captains featured and ideally in uniform.
One Final Thought
As Michael Muldoon used to say, “If you can bring a smile to someone’s face today, just do it!
