GIRLS TENNIS
Hamilton-Wenham 4, Masconomet 1: In the second battle between the defending state champions this spring, the Generals once again emerged victorious by the same score as their first meeting, remaining unbeaten at 7-0. Sweeping singles behind Emma Jani (6-0, 6-0), Naomi Provost (6-3, 6-0), and Ellie Holbrook (6-4, 6-1), Hamilton-Wenham also took second doubles behind Sienna Gregory and Maddie Minich, 6-2, 6-4.
Masconomet (now 6-2) got its win from Sienna Anvari and Sophia Donnellan at first doubles, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Marblehead 5, Saugus 0: Maddie Conlon (6-1, 6-1), Sami Dosch (6-1, 6-1) and, making her varsity tennis debut, junior Emma Zurn (6-2, 6-1) all won in singles for the Magicians. Aoife Bresnahan and Lucia Levin were winners at first doubles (6-4, 6-0), as were seniors Amelia Singer and Hannah Atkinson making their debut at second doubles (6-1, 6-1).
Bishop Fenwick 5, Arlington Catholic 0: The Crusaders rolled as Lacey Murphy and Ari Summa (6-2, 6-1) and Jackie Dormer and Maggie Wichroski (6-0, 6-1) earning wins in doubles action. Singles wins were picked up by Gwen Schroeder (6-1, 6-0), Callie Reed (6-1, 6-0) and Caroline O’Hare (6-3, 6-1).
BASEBALL
Peabody 1, Gloucester 0 (8 innings): Senior captain Cam Connolly blasted a walk-off solo homer over the right field fence and also earned the eight frame shutout, scattering three hits with five strikeouts as the Tanners (9-2) won their sixth straight. Fellow senior Mike Petro went 2-for-4 and Josh Sigmon and Jayden Cunningham had the other hits in the NEC pitcher’s duel. Nico Alves threw seven scoreless for Gloucester (6-3).
Triton 20, Essex Tech 2: Mike Pesce drove in both runs for the Hawks (1-7) and Dan Greenfield was on base multiple times throughout the game.
BOYS TENNISMarblehead 5, Boston Latin Academy 0: The Magicians didn’t drop a set as Mika Garber (6-3, 6-0), Etan Farfel (6-1, 6-1), and TJ Kelly (6-4, 6-4) had the singles victories, with Jayden Janock and Leo Winocour (6-0, 6-4) won at first doubles, with Anthony Vizy and Ty Cooper taking second doubles, 6-1, 6-3.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Ipswich 14, Hamilton-Wenham 8: Halle Greenleaf scored five times, including the 100th goal of her career, to give the Tigers (now 8-0) a win. Jayne Krause (2 goals, 2 assists), Lucy Winthrop (2 goals, assist), Estelle Gromko (2 goals), Allie Wile (2 goals) and Ella Stein also scored, with Abby Sutherland making six saves. Defensive stars for Ipswich included Faith Hauenstein (7 ground balls, 4 caused turnovers) Jade Wilcox (4 GB, 4 CT) Lucy Donahue (2 CT) and Avery Brown (2 CT).
Freshman Jane Boardman scored four times for the Generals, Evan Bernard added three tallies and 11 draw controls, and Avery Nistl also scored. Maddie Graber and Lucy Ayers had fine games defensively and goalie Ava Vautour had many saves from close range.
Essex Tech 20, Triton 4: Morgan Costa’s 4-goal, 4-assist performance paced the Hawks (3-5) to an easy win. Gabby Eddie (6 draw controls) and Carrie Martinez (assist) added three goals each; Makayla Downing (8 DC’s), and Bella Veteano (assist) each had two; and Sydney Mace, Olivia Isidro (2 assists), Emerson Adams, Reese Curtis, Thais Dos Santos and Susie Puska scored once apiece.
Montrose 13, Landmark 1: Captain Mikaila Bennett had the lone tally for the Wolfpack (now 2-2) to the top team in the Independent Girls Conference. Goaltender Sophia Vaca finished with 16 saves.
BOYS LACROSSE
St. John’s Prep 7, BC High 4: In a defensive road struggle at Cotter Field, the Eagles (9-0) got four fourth quarter goals to pull away for the win. Max Putney (8 first half saves) and Mattheus DuPlessis (6 second half saves) both shined in net for SJP, which won 10 of 15 faceoffs. Drew Bossi (2), Jack Doherty, Oliver Rosselli, Cam McCarthy, Luke Kelly and Jake Vana had the Prep goals, with Grayson Ambrosh and Owen White earning assists.
Ipswich 17, Hamilton-Wenham 3: Will Harrington exploded for 11 points — tops on the North Shore this spring — with five goals and six assists in the Tigers’ win. Finn Wright (3 goals, assist), Charlie Elder (2 goals), Louie Harrington (goal, assist), Chris Burns (goal, assist) and Luke Wile (goal, assist) were other multiple point scorers, with Jason Clapp and Sam Major also scoring. Spencer McDavitt excelled at ground balls and had one assist, with Nolan Hickey making four saves.
Junior midfielder Charlie Convey notched a pair of goals for H-W (now 1-6), with freshman Billy Brown adding a goal and an assist.
Essex Tech 9, Triton 7: Fisher Gadbois (3 goals) had six points while brother Mason Gadbois scored once to go with four assists to lift the Hawks (6-3). Damian Biersteker (20 saves) got additional offensive help from Armani Booth (2 goals, assist, 10 faceoff wins), Matthew Tavares (2 goals), Timmy Tavares (goal) and Nevin Maher (assist).
UNIFIED TRACK
Salem shines: The Salem Unified Track team saw significant improvement in many of their events in a meet against Marblehead. Post-High student Diego Matos (11-3) and Freshman Celine Jones (32-2) set new personal records in the javelin, as did freshman Sebastian Lugo (22-4), junior Andy Nguyen (25-2), and junior Zadrian Burris (6-0) in the shot put. Freshman Nate Michalak had a great showing in the 400 meters (1:29.08), while sophomore Polly Babineau won her 100 meter heat (22.08).
GIRLS TRACK
Winthrop 76, Danvers 67: Kendall Murphy was a triple winner for the Falcons Monday, taking top honors in the high jump, 100 hurdles, and 200 meters. DeAnna Figueirdeo won both the 400 and 400 hurdles, with additional first place showings from Olivia Page (triple jump), Tess Ryan (100) and Emily Sullivan (mile).
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Brandeis 6, Endicott 0: Ella Tower’s double was one of three hits on the day for Endicott, which fell to 21-11.
Gordon win pair: The Scots swept Lesley, 5-2 and 5-4 to move to 12-26 on the season. Abby Murray’s sixth inning RBI triple put the Scots on top in the one run affair and Jayden Johnson hit a home run. Sierra Ricci threw all seven innings in the other victory and Johnson also jumped the yard in that one.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Endicott 5, Trinity 3: The nation’s number one team received a stiff test but scored three times in the bottom of the eighth to rally. T.J. Liponis tied it with a single, James Benestad doubled in the go-ahead run and Evan Scully nailed down the last four outs for the win. Peabody’s John Mulready led Endicott (34-2) with three hits.
Suffolk 12, Gordon 1: Harry Painter from Manchester hit a home run and Beverly’s Jon Gilbride had a hit and scored as the Rams took down the Scots. Jacob Blake went 3-for-4 for Gordon (now 7-29).
MEN’S COLLEGE TENNISUMass Boston 5, Salem State 1: The Vikings were eliminated from the Little East playoffs despite an 8-3 doubles win from Cory Cherico and Quentin Wilkins.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Worcester State 17, Salem State 7: McKayla Fisher of Peabody had a hat trick for the Lancers as they ousted Salem State (2-13) in the MASCAC playoffs. Aislinn Bennett led the Vikings with two goals and two assists.
