BOYS BASKETBALL
Peabody 75, Marblehead 51: Senior guard A.J. Forte scored 23 points and became the first Peabody High boy to reach 1,000 career points in 17 years while the Tanners (8-1) took sole possession of first place in the Northeastern Conference and also remained unbeaten at home. Fellow senior Raphel Laurent totaled 25 points with 10 of them coming in the fourth quarter as Peabody pulled away. Yanni Pappas added nine of three trifectas.
For Marblehead (now 3-1), Scott Campbell had a team-best 23 points of his own and Nick Lemmond and Ryan Commoss had 11 each.
Hamilton-Wenham 49, Pentucket 29: Chris Collins and Caden Schrock scored 13 each in a balanced effort for the Generals (4-3).
Ipswich 55, Triton 38: Nick DeLeon made four bombs and scored 18 points as the Tigers (2-5) took a 20-point lead into halftime and never looked back. Max Chesley had a double-double with 13 points and a dozen boards and Rex Satter chipped in nine.
Manchester Essex 74, Essex Tech 34: Cade Furse had 25 points to pace the unbeaten Hornets (7-0). Jack Tsoutsouras led the Hawks with 12 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Manchester Essex 52, Essex Tech 36: Thais Dos Santos led the Hawks (3-6) with eight points while Nicole Mwaura scored seven, Bella Gonzalez added six, Tenley Mugford scored five and Marissa Perez had a standout game defensively.
Pentucket 51, Hamilton-Wenham 23: Grace Harres led the Generals with eight points but Pentucket star Amanda Crowe’s 23 were too much to overcome. Gaby Campbell and Annie Moynihan each added six points for H-W.
Swampscott 53, Lynn Tech 34: Sophomore Jesse Ford had 14 points and freshman Olivia Quagrello scored 12 to get the Big Blue back to their winning ways. Cecilia Tripp added 11 in the victory.
Triton 50, Ipswich 37: It was a tough night at the office for the Tigers.
GIRLS TRACK
Crusaders split: Bishop Fenwick took a close loss against Cardinal Spellman, 47-43, and also topped Ursuline, 56-31, to go to 3-2. Event winners included Avalon Donlon (mile), Julia Davis (mile), the 4×200 relay and the 4×400 relay. Maeve O’Donnell was second in the 300, Marianna Key picked up second in the 1000 and McKenna Leaman was second in the shot put.
BOYS TRACK
Cardinal Spellman 71, Bishop Fenwick 19: John Reilly came in first in the 1000 for Fenwick (1-1). Other standout performers were John Reilly (2nd, 600), Sam Appleyard (2nd, 2-mile), Declan Corcoran (2nd, long jump) and the 4×200 relay.
WRESTLING
Beverly 54, Marblehead/Swampscott 23: Johnny Michaud scored a pinfall at 126 pounds for his first varsity win and the Panthers picked up another NEC win. Other notable winners were Carter Lang (132), Joe Baker (175) and Jack Consedine (285).
SWIMMING
Salem 85, Bishop Fenwick 81: The Witches won their first meet in five seasons Monday night, knocking off Fenwick at the Salem YMCA pool. Senior Madeleine Lucas, a Salem Academy student, took first place in the 100 butterfly (1:04.37) to earn her fourth state championship qualifying time. Freshman Grant Dwyer also earned a first for Salem in the 200 freestyle (1:58.75), while sophomore Charlie Kurti took valuable seconds in both the 200 IM (2:39.25) and 100 breaststroke (1:22.50). The mixed medley relay team of Dwyer, Kurti, Lucas and DaCosta won in 2:02.04, as did the mixed 200 free relay team (Bednar, Sverka, Debias and DeCosta) in a time of 2:13.28.
For Bishop Fenwick, Caroline Blatchford was a state qualifier in both the 500 free (5:42.20), which she won, as well as the 200 free (2:07.22), where she placed second. Hannah Ryan (1:19.20) won the 100 breaststroke, as did Amelia Gallant in the 200 IM.
MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Curry 67, Gordon 66: Peabody native Jason Romans scored all eight of his points in the second half and added nine rebounds and four assists to help Curry rally by the Scots. Gordon was led by a 23-point effort from Isaac Jarvis and Justin Yu also added ten.
Nichols 72, Endicott 67: In a battle of 10-3 teams, the Bison held on late to hand the Gulls their first CCC loss of the season. Jalen Echevarria led Endicott with 15 points and Elijah Kinney scored a dozen with eight rebounds.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Gordon 70, Curry 49: Ami Rivera had 17 points and three steals and Sydney Noyes posted 11 points with 14 rebounds to lead the Scots (2-12) to their first conference win of the season. Isabella Rivera also scored in double figures with 10 to go with 11 boards.
Endicott 98, Nichols 72: Fresh off becoming the third fastest woman in program history to reach 1,000 points, Sarah Dempsey scored 26 more to lead the Gulls (7-5) to a high scoring win. Cora Nadeau had an incredible effort off the bench with 30 points in 24 minutes of action and Katelyn Konareski scored 16 as Endicott pounded the rock inside, shooting 63 percent and attempting a mere four 3’s.
MEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY
Endicott 8, Salem State 1: Zach Mazur authored a hat trick and added two assists to power Endicott (8-3-4). Andrew Kurapov added a goal with two assists and Kevin Craig had one of each. Carson James got Salem State (3-10) on the board in the third period and Viking netminder Aaron Mercer was quite busy with 43 saves.
