THOMASVILLE- During halftime on the Thomas University men’s basketball game on Saturday, the Women’s Championship Flag Football team received their 2023 championship rings. The Night Hawks Flag Football team earned their rings by capturing both The Sun Conference regular season and tournament championships in 2023.
Thomas finished 2023 with a 20-3 overall record, going 9-1 in conference play. The Night Hawks had a remarkable 2023 season, statistically, by holding 10 opponents scoreless, and held an additional six opponents to one touchdown of less, on the scoreboard. During the two seasons of flag football at Thomas, the Night Hawks have achieved an overall record of 38-5, 18-2 within Sun Conference play. The Night Hawks would, ultimately, finish the season as the NAIA runner-up, for the second consecutive season, falling in the championship game to Ottawa University (KS), in heart-breaking fashion.
The extraordinary accomplishments have been led by Head Coach Chelsea Parmer. Her remarkable work, over her two seasons, has been recognized by her peers within the conference, and once again, Parmer was selected as The Sun Conference Coach of the Year (her second consecutive). Five Night Hawks were selected to The Sun Conference All-Conference Team: Kiana Acol (2nd consecutive), Brittany Delva, Gisele Jones, Janae Scott (2nd consecutive), and Alexa Wilson.
On Saturday, 17 of the 20 players, who were on the 2023 roster, returned to receive their jewelry. The rings were presented to the ladies by Dr. James Andrew Sheppard, President of Thomas University, and Kurt Stringfellow, Director of Athletics for Thomas University.
The Night Hawks will begin their quest for a three-peat, on Thursday, February 15, with a conference match-up at Webber International. They will stay in South Florida, to face Warner on Friday, February 16. The first home contest will occur on Saturday, February 24 against Florida Gateway College, at 1 p.m.
