Well, that’s one way to start off your spring track season.
During Wednesday’s season-opening home meet against North Reading, Liam Kneeland had a day he probably won’t ever forget. The Triton senior broke the school record in the discus, launching a toss of 173-10 to ultimately lead the Vikings past the Hornets in the match, 84-61.
And with this being the first meet of the year, who knows how far Kneeland may throw by the time the spring is up.
Elsewhere, the Triton boys also got individual event victories from Zach Lyon in the Mile (4:59), Jason Holscher in the high jump (5-6), Michael Coco in the 100 (11.91), John Prendergast in the 800 (2:09), Jack Lyman in the 400 (54.17), Duncan MacDonald in the 2-Mile (11:12) and Will Hight in the 200 (24.1). The Vikings then saw the 4×100 relay team of Coco, Hight, Tyler Brosch and Sam Abt win in 45.11, and the 4×400 squad of Lyman, Andrew Doherty, Harry Pike and Everett Romano race to first in 3:47.
On the girl’s side, Triton did have some highlights against the powerhouse North Reading program, which won the meet 107-38.
Anna Romano won the 800 (2:30) and Ari Basile won the 400 (66.12) for the Vikings, and the 4×400 team of Romano, Alexa Bonasera, Avery Upite and Emelia Shkurti took first in 4:29.20.
Amesbury boys take down Hamilton-Wenham
The Amesbury boys track team started the season off strong on Wednesday, racing past Hamilton-Wenham, 98-42.
Picking up individual wins for the Redhawks was Max Sanchez in the triple jump (35-1), 400 low hurdles (62.3) and high jump (5-4), Brody Tonks in the long jump (19-1.50), pole vault (9-0) and 400 (54.3), Micheal Sanchez in the 100 (11.1) and 200 (23.4), Aiden Donovan in the shot put (52-0) and discus (159-7) and Maxx Rodrigues in the 800 (2:05.7).
On the girl’s side, Amesbury fell in a close one to the Generals, 77-55.
Lindsey Williamson was a double-winner on the day for the Redhawks, taking first in both the triple jump (29-6) and the high hurdles (16.9). Gabby Peixoto added a win in the high jump (4-8), Cadence Olbrot won the javelin (68-11) and Bayleigh Shanahan won the 100 (12.9).
