The Manchester Essex Rotary Club’s Red, White & Blue Pancake Breakfast this Saturday kicks off Fourth of July activities in Manchester-by-the-Sea.
The breakfast, from 7:30-11 a.m., features pancakes and bacon, live music, and pony rides and face painting for children.
Tickets are $12 in advance at https://bit.ly/3VDu3PN, and $15 at the door ages 8 and older, $10 ages 4-8 and children 3 and under are free of charge.
A 50/50 Raffle to benefit the Manchester-Essex Rotary Club Scholarship fund will be drawn at 11:30 a.m.
Take the free water taxi service between Tuck’s Point and either Manchester Town Hall or Reid’s Park, where there is free parking, The shuttle runs until 11:30 a.m.
The band Northern Fried gives a free concert Tuesday, July 2, 6-8 p.m. in Masconomo Park.
The Singing Beach Fireworks are Wednesday, July 3, at 9 p.m., preceded by a beach concert at 7 p.m. Rain date is July 6. The beach parking lot, reserved for handicapped and those with limited mobility only, will close at 5 p.m.
No beach fires or drones are allowed July 3-4 and will be enforced.
The Fourth of July Parade will take place July 4 at 10 a.m., rain or shine. No parking will be allowed along the parade route on July 4. Streets will close on a rolling basis as the parade marches by.
Seaside One open house
The Manchester-by-the-Sea Museum invites the public to an open house Saturday at the Seaside No. 1 Firehouse, 22 Central St.
Seaside One, Manchester’s former fire and police station, will be open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The station features the history of the town’s public safety departments as well as the town’s two historic fire engines:
Torrent, a hand pumper built in 1832.
Seaside No. 2, a horse-drawn steam pumper.
Boy wins free throw contest
Dustin Rubin of Manchester-by-the-Sea placed in the statewide Knights of Columbus Free Throw Shooting Championship.
Rubin was one of the five winners of January’s Free Throw Championship, hosted by Masconomo Council 1232 Knights of Columbus, who advanced to the regional free throw shoot out at St Mary’s High School in Lynn in March.
Of those five, he, as winner of the boys 10-year-old division, and Hadley Johnson, winner of the girls 12-year-old division, qualified to go on to the State Final Shoot Out in April at Holliston High School. Jack McLaughlin took a trophy as runner-up in the boys 10-year-old division.
Due to a scheduling conflict, Johnson could not compete in the final.
Tied for second, Rubin took home the second-place trophy after winning an exciting shoot-out.
“We were pleased to see the level of skill and good sportsmanship on display from each of our competitors in this Free Throw Tournament,” Masconomo Council Free Throw organizer Fred Newton said. “Dustin Rubin was amazing. His shooting consistency was is impressive. He was great to watch. To place second statewide is quite an accomplishment for Dustin as he shot past hundreds of competitors in his age group.”
Ribbon cutting
An Essex Causeway mainstay is taking its food on the road.
Woodman’s of Essex hosts its free “Woodman’s On Wheels” Kick-Off Celebration on Wednesday, June 26, from 5-8 p.m. in the Salt Marsh Tent behind the restaurant, 119 Main St. in Essex.
The program begins at 5:30 p.m., with the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m., and steel drum entertainment from 6-8 p.m. There’ll be a cash bar, refreshments and lawn games. The event is rain or shine.
The Woodman’s food truck will offer samples from its menu.
Essex survey
