Seniors Armani Booth and Garrett White, along with junior Brady Leonard, were all chosen from the Essex Tech hockey team to the Cape Ann League’s First Team all-star squad, which was announced Wednesday afternoon.
Booth, a four-year starter on defense and team captain this winter, is one of the area’s most physically imposing players at 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds. He has three goals and seven assists this season, with career numbers of 13 goals, 27 assists and 40 points.
White, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound goaltender who returned to the Hawks this season, has had an excellent showing in net by going 9-6-1 with a 2.05 goals against average, .902 save percentage and four shutouts. He has a 2.27 career GAA.
Leonard, a three-year starting center for Essex Tech, leads the squad in both goals (17) and total points (33) heading into Thursday’s playoff opener against Bishop Stang. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound pivot stands just three points shy from being the second Hawks’ player to hit 100 career points and currently has 50 goals and 47 assists.
Essex Tech, which went 6-4 to finish in a second place tie in the CAL Kinney Division in its first season as a member of the league, also won the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Joining these three on the CAL Kinney’s First Team all-star team were five players from league champion Newburyport, including junior goalie and league MVP Damien Lamb. The other four Clippers picked were all senior forwards: Jackson DeVivo, Tristan Joyce, Kane Brennan, and Jack Sullivan. In addition, Paul Yameen was picked as the CAL Kinney Coach of the Year.
Lynnfield, which tied Essex Tech for second place in the league standings, also had three all-stars: senior forward Jarett Scoppetuollo, and junior centers Will Norton and Owen Considine. Triton also garnered three all-star nominations in senior defenseman Jack Lindholm, junior forward Josh Hersey, and junior goaltender Gavin Marengi.
In the CAL Baker Division, league champion Amesbury was represented by junior center Bodie Marcotte, the league’s MP, as well as senior forwards Matt Venturi and Joey Duggan, and freshman defenseman Lincoln Kime. Redhawks’ head coach Steve Costa was named the CAL Baker Coach of the Year.
For Rockport, which earned the CAL Baker Sportsmanship Award, senior defensemen Nick Nocella (4 goals, 10 assists) and Evan Haughey (a former a skater for Hamilton-Wenham who has 7 assists this winter) were selected as all-stars.
Two freshmen from North Reading, goalie Charlie Cooper and Christian Lava, were picked, along with teammate Max Forristall, a junior defenseman. Also, Pentucket had senior forward Nick Kutcher and sophomore forward Chase Pelletier chosen.
