Do you need help with your taxes? The 2023 tax filing season is beginning and the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library and the AARP Tax-Aide Foundation are partnering again to bring in-person tax aid to the community.
The AARP Foundation and locally trained volunteers will provide free personal income tax counseling and tax preparation for middle- and low-income taxpayers with special attention to persons 50 years of age and older. An appointment is required and can be made right now.
To sign up for an appointment at the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library go to the following website: https://Tinyurl.com/Tax-aidelibrary. Appointments at the library will be on Tuesdays and Fridays, ending April 16.
If Tuesdays or Fridays don’t work for your schedule you can also sign up for appointments at the Mack Gaston Community Center on Saturdays. To sign up for an appointment at the community center go to the following website: https://Tiny.one/Tax-AideGaston.
For those who sign up for an appointment, you should stop by the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library or the Mack Gaston Community Center and pick up a packet of forms needed to complete your tax return. Some things to keep in mind:
• Social Security cards are required for all people included in the return.
• Both taxpayers (taxpayer and spouse) must be present to sign the return.
• Bring the previous year’s tax return.
