After serving as a long-time editor with Simon & Schuster Canada, Nita Prose tries her hand at writing with her debut novel “The Maid.” Selling more than one million copies, it has become a New York Times bestseller and a “Good Morning America” Book Club pick.
Molly Gray isn’t your average 25-year-old. She has difficulty reading social cues and works as a maid at the prestigious Regency Grand Hotel. With an eye for perfection and the inability to catch a break, Molly navigates the world differently and often finds herself in unlikely situations.
Things become even more complicated when she discovers the wealthy Charles Black dead in his hotel suite. Before you know it, Molly finds herself as the prime suspect in a high-profile murder case. With the help of some lovable friends she never knew she had, it’s up to Molly to clear her name and catch the killer before it’s too late.
“The Maid” delivers the heart-warming message that we are all the same in different ways. The plot is a unique twist on the average murder-mystery tropes, with a familiarity of Amelia Bedelia meets Clue. The characters are endearing; each brings their own personality and a piece of a much larger puzzle. The writing will keep you glued to the pages with a surprise at each turning page.
Aside from its commercial book success, an adaptation of “The Maid” is in development, with Universal Studios owning the rights. Florence Pugh will bring Molly Gray to life on the screen and will serve as an executive producer.
The highly-anticipated sequel “The Mystery Guest” is set to be released on Nov. 28.
