Textile Rubber & Chemical Co. has announced this year’s scholarship recipients.
— Textile Rubber & Chemical Co. (TRCC) awarded this year’s Betty Smith Memorial Scholarship to Sophia Bagby. Bagby is a recent graduate of Dalton High School and plans to attend Georgia Southern University where she will major in biology.
She is the daughter of John and Elvira Bagby and the sister of Emma Rose Bagby. John has been with TRCC-Transport as dispatcher for 10 years.
Sophia Bagby is the first recipient of the Betty Smith Memorial Scholarship that was established in 2024 in memory of company President Chip Howalt’s mother. The company will award the Betty Smith scholarship each year to a deserving child of one of its employees. The full scholarship pays four years of college tuition, room and board within the University of Georgia system, or an amount equivalent for out-of-state recipients.
— Textile Rubber & Chemical Co. awarded this year’s Harvey Howalt Scholarship to Brayden Barbre. Barbre is a recent graduate of Coahulla Creek High School and plans to attend Georgia Tech, where he will major in civil engineering.
He is the son of Ben and Tina Barbre and the brother of Barrett and Bryce Barbre. Ben has been with TRCC-LTX as operations manager for 29 years.
Brayden Barbre is the first recipient of the Harvey Howalt Memorial Scholarship that was established in 2024 in memory of Harvey Howalt, founder and father of current President Chip Howalt. TRCC will award the Harvey Howalt scholarship each year to a deserving child of one of its employees. The full scholarship pays four years of college tuition, room and board within the University of Georgia system, or an amount equivalent for out-of-state recipients.
— Textile Rubber & Chemical Co. awarded this year’s Joseph E. Willard Scholarship to Laken Coppinger. Coppinger is a recent graduate of the Baylor School in Chattanooga and plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
She is the daughter of Bo and Christie Coppinger and the sister of Kennedy and Trip Coppinger. Bo is the director of information technology and has been with the company 19 years.
Laken Coppinger is the fortieth recipient of the Willard Memorial Scholarship that was established in 1984 in memory of Joe Willard, a longtime assistant and close friend to Harvey Howalt. Textile Rubber awards the Willard scholarship each year to a deserving child of one of its employees. The full scholarship pays four years of college tuition, room and board within the University of Georgia system, or an amount equivalent for out-of-state recipients.
— Textile Rubber & Chemical Co. awarded this year’s Ray N. Taylor Memorial Scholarship to Will Manning. Manning is a recent graduate of the McCallie School in Chattanooga and plans to attend Mississippi State University, majoring in animal and dairy science.
He is the son of Jeff and Julie Manning and the brother of Josh Manning. Jeff has been with the company as a research and development chemist for 25 years.
Will Manning is the eleventh recipient of the Ray N. Taylor Memorial Scholarship that was established in 2013 in memory of Ray Taylor, a longtime president and close friend to Harvey Howalt. Textile Rubber will award the Taylor scholarship each year to a deserving child of one of its employees. The full scholarship pays four years of college tuition, room and board within the University of Georgia system, or an amount equivalent for out-of-state recipients.
