A 17-year old was arrested Tuesday in connection with the Nov. 21 fatal shooting of a Spalding Street resident.
The juvenile was arraigned on a charge of intentional homicide Wednesday in Niagara County Family Court, Lockport Police Chief Steve Abbott said.
The juvenile — whose name and gender are not publicized, due to their age, per state law — currently is in secure juvenile lockup.
The juvenile is accused of shooting and killing 26-year-old Michael Hathaway at his residence, 166 Spalding St., about 10:50 p.m. Nov. 21.
Abbott said previously that the shooting was “targeted” and “not random.”
Lockport Police Department’s investigation of the shooting is ongoing, Abbott said.
“We’ve got our detectives working on it and they do a thorough job. They’re trying every lead,” he said.
Abbott confirmed that Hathaway was a level-three registered sex offender, and said that did not have anything to do with his shooting.
Hathaway’s funeral service was held at Taylor Reynolds Funeral Home on Thursday.
Hathaway’s death was the third homicide by gun in the past four years in the city of Lockport, Abbott said; prior to the October 2020 shooting death of Cheyenne Farewell during a house party on Niagara Street, LPD had not fielded a fatal shooting case in about a decade.
