Lou Hayes, a student in the Administrative Office Technology Program from Crossville, has been honored as 2023 Fall Student of the Term at Tennessee College of Applied Technology Crossville.
Each term an outstanding student is selected to represent each full-time program taught at TCAT Crossville. These students are selected by their instructors to represent their class as a Student of Merit. The instructor considers grades, work ethics, and extracurricular activities when choosing a student representative. These names are then reviewed and a TCAT Student of the Term is chosen. The winner receives a scholarship provided by the TCAT General Advisory Council.
According to administrative office technology instructor, Wanda Reid, “Lou comes into not only the class but the building every day with a big smile on her face and eager to learn. Everyone knows Lou, not because Lou is the lady in a wheelchair but because of Lou’s big personality and the way she greets every person she meets. Lou’s kindness and enthusiasm is contagious and is felt by those around her daily as well as every person that walks in the front door at TCAT where you can often find her helping administrative staff when shorthanded.”
Reid asked classmates to help with the nomination of Hayes because those that have been with her since the beginning and have received the blessing of her kindness and outreach deserve an opportunity to tell the committee how she has impacted them in the classroom.
“Lou is a special person who can pull people together. She loves community and cares deeply for others. She hopes the best for everyone around her, and sometimes is too sacrificial in how much she cares. The TCAT food drive was something close to her heart, it was a chance to feed more than just friends. Not only did she herself bring food to donate but she also fed the students on campus to raise funds and collect more donations. It is our honor to nominate Lou Hayes for the award of Student of Excellence,” administrative office technology classmates said.
