TRAVERSE CITY — A Suttons Bay man ran from law enforcement and was stun-gunned by Michigan State Police troopers in a homeless encampment in Traverse City, according to state police.
The scuffle stemmed from a pursuit in the Pines around 4 p.m. Thursday. It started when state troopers from the Traverse City post said they recognized a 35-year-old Suttons Bay man wanted for a probation violation stemming from a methamphetamine arrest.
According to the state police news release: The man was standing with a group of people near the Pines when troopers approached. A trooper used his Taser on the man after a foot chase and struggle. A glass pipe with methamphetamine residue was found in his pocket.
The man was treated at the Pines by emergency medical services personnel. Then he was taken to Munson Medical Center for treatment for a pre-existing shoulder injury before going to Grand Traverse County Jail.
Grand Traverse County sheriff’s deputies, Traverse City police officers, and K-9 unit assisted state police in making the arrest.
