A customer at a Dollar General Store walked out with about $100 in donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
He was identified through surveillance camera footage and now faces a misdemeanor theft charges.
The incident was reported to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office last Wednesday in the 10200 block of Hwy. 70 E. and is alleged to have taken place the day before around 7 p.m., according to Deputy K-9 Officer Tasahua Stone.
Bobby Otis Jolly, 27, Brown’s Creek Rd., was jailed on the theft of up to $500. He was released on $1,500 bond Nov. 23.
According to Stone’s report, she met with a store manager who identified a suspect in the incident.
Video surveillance showed a man — identified as Jolly — walking around the cash register looking to see if anyone was around. He then grabbed a jar set out for collecting donations for the hospital, hid the jar in his jacket and walked out the front door.
The $100 in donations is an estimate of what donations usually amount to and is not an exact amount, the report noted.
Jolly will appear in General Sessions Court at a later date.
