Several high-achieving high school students in the Murray County Schools system will be recognized during the Board of Education’s monthly meeting on Monday.
Students scheduled to be recognized include the members of the 2023-24 Murray County High School girls basketball team who, led by head coach Chris Tipton, secured the program’s first appearance in a Georgia High School Association Final Four in 58 years.
The board members will also recognize North Murray High School senior and culinary arts student Jayden Defriece, who placed first in the Georgia Family Career and Community Leaders of America’s Region Culinary STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events Competition in Dalton on Feb. 8 and the state competition in Athens on March 18. In late June, Defriece and North Murray’s culinary arts instructor Courtney Coffey will travel to Seattle for the national competition.
In honor of National School Librarian Day, April 4, media specialists throughout the system will also be recognized.
Murray County Schools’ Director of Finance Kathy Smith is scheduled to provide financial updates and detail recent purchase orders and Superintendent Steve Loughridge will give the superintendent report.
The meeting is at 6 p.m. in the central office board room at 1006 Green Road and is open to the public. For those unable to attend, the meeting will be livestreamed on Murray County Schools’ YouTube page.
