Roane State Fentress Campus, Clarkrange, was the recipient of a RSCC President’s Mini-Grant for the 2024-25 academic year to provide seed funding to faculty and staff for innovative projects that are aligned with the college’s strategic planning goals.
Our campus proposed an entrepreneurship camp for Middle School students to provide meaningful, hands-on experiences to learn about business start-up concepts.
This entrepreneurial education program was designed to address several critical needs: economic opportunity, skill development, community development, and long-term impact.
The camp took place during the school system’s fall break, 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday. In addition to mini lessons on the strategies of business start-up, students were engaged in STEM activities and heard from guest entrepreneurs each day both in person and virtually.
A huge thank you to all the small business owners and representatives who participated to make the camp an success.
On the final day, campers had a celebration with their families sharing their business models and entrepreneurial plan with a live presentation. More details and photos can be found at Roane State Fentress Campus on Facebook.
During the camp celebration, each camper was presented with a certificate of completion, an official camp T-shirt and a goody bag filled with books and supplies.
There is another entrepreneurship camp which will focus on innovation and STEM planned for the summer. More information and registration details will be announced later. Contact Roane State Fentress Site Director Cheryl Tays at taysca@roanestate.edu or 931-752-8320, ext. 4189, for more information.
