The Gloucester educator strike is over.
The Union of Gloucester Educators (UGE) said it has reached a tentative agreement following 15 days of being on the strike lines. The contract was ratified by the membership.
“Gloucester educators are excited to return back to school Monday morning with a strong and fair contract that ensures our students have the best learning conditions possible. Today, our union unanimously ratified our agreement,” Rachel Salvo Rex and Maryann Aiello, co-presidents of the Union of Gloucester Educators, said in a prepared statement.
Superintendent Ben Lummis emailed school families Friday shortly before 3 p.m. that students would be back in class Monday morning.
“I am writing with relief to let you know that with the signed agreements between the teachers and paraprofessionals, and the School Committee, the educator strike is now over. On Monday, November 25th, the City of Gloucester will be back to school!”
“Collectively, we are experiencing great relief and anticipation about getting back to the important work that we do together with your children,” he said.
