TIFTON — The City of Tifton renamed a portion of a street in honor of a resident at a recent meeting.
Tifton City Council unanimously agreed June 5 to name the section of Dixie Avenue from 4th to 6th Street in honor of Dr. Homer Day’s 30 years of service to the community.
Day has served on both the Tifton Housing Authority and the Tift County Development Authority, is a retiree of the University System of Georgia and actively serves several civic and nonprofit organizations.
While presenting him with the adjusted Dixie Avenue street sign bearing his name, Mayor Julie Smith praised Day’s dedication to enriching Tifton through education improvements, economic development and additional quality housing.
Accompanied by his fellow THA members, Day said while he wasn’t sure he deserved the honor, he is thankful to be appreciated.
