A manager was charged with third-degree grand larceny and falsifying a business record following an investigation into missing money and products from a store on Main Street in Newfane.
Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the store on Tuesday where they were met by a regional manager of asset protection and a district manager. They told deputies they were called to the store to investigate discrepancies with nightly deposits. During that investigation, a 37-year-old manager at the store was confronted and admitted to stealing $21,381.82 of nightly store deposits as well as various merchandise, including cigarettes.
The store officials said they were alerted to the theft after receiving a cash alert from the corporation’s treasurer department on Oct. 8 that the bank hadn’t a deposit. It was later confirmed the bank was missing deposits on Oct. 8 and also from Oct. 11 through Oct. 20.
After speaking with the company officials, deputies said the manager provided a written statement on his involvement in the crimes following his arrest and was taken to the Niagara County jail for arraignment.
