Greenblott picks Marist
One of the top high school soccer players in Eastern Mass. has made her college decision.
Newburyport’s own Alexis Greenblott, now a rising-senior, has announced her verbal commitment to Marist College at the Division I level. Located in upstate New York, Marist plays out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), and has added quite the gifted scorer with this signing.
Greenblott is our reigning Daily News Girls Soccer MVP and a First Team All-State selection, after the midfielder scored 13 goals with 5 assists last fall to help the Clippers (12-5-3) make the Division 3 playoffs. She will enter her senior year with 42 career goals and 15 assists, while also being a two-time Daily News All-Star, two-time All-CAL selection, two-time First Team All-EMass selection and one-time All-State selection.
Port girls in summer league final
Members of the Newburyport girls basketball program advanced to the finals of the Methuen Summer League on Monday night, where they fell to a strong squad out of Londonderry (N.H.), 60-39. Leading the way for the Clippers was rising-senior and Daily News All-Star Olivia Foley with 12 points, and both Clara Thompson (10 pts) and Maddie Hopwood also played well.
Rising-junior Sammie Sullivan, who already has multiple Division I college offers, led Londonderry with 33 points.

A MacLeod of dust!
Pentucket rising-junior Gabe McLeod is putting in some serious work this summer ahead of the upcoming school track year. The high-level sprinter, who owns the third-fastest 100-meter time in school history (11.49), recently ran the first sub-second 10-yard fly of the summer with a 0.98 — which converts to sprinting at 21 miles per hour.
Friis doing it all
Multi-sport Triton standout Liam Friis is doing a bit of everything to improve in both football and baseball this summer.
Back in mid-July, the rising-senior traveled down to Dartmouth for a kicking showcase, where he went 8-for-8 on field goals, 4-for-4 on landing deep touchbacks on kickoffs, and also booted a pair of punts that had longer than a four-second hangtime. He’s also a capable wide receiver — as we’ll probably see this upcoming fall — but his right leg has proven to be the bigger weapon for the Vikings over his career.
Then a couple of weeks later, Friis was down in Saratoga (N.Y.) for the Battle of the Borders showcase. The hard-throwing righty tossed 6.2 innings of scoreless work, allowing just one hit with two walks and seven strikeouts.
