The two-story, single-family house at 131 South St. sustained about $70,000 of damage due to a fire Wednesday evening.
Lockport Fire Department rushed to the house at 5:50 p.m. and were greeted by heavy smoke that could be seen coming from a second-story window of the home.
According to Fire Chief Luca Quagliano, only one of the house’s occupants was at the property at the time of the fire and was outside of the home when crews arrived.
The origin of the fire was attributed to an “accidental” electrical issue involving a heated blanket, Quagliano said. No one was injured as a result of the fire.
Crews worked inside and outside of the home for approximately two hours to extinguish the blaze.
The fire was contained to the room of origin on the second floor.
He estimated that there was about $60,000 worth of smoke and water damage to the property and an additional $10,000 in damages to contents inside the home.
