VALDOSTA — Gasoline prices in Lowndes County remained steady over the past week, bucking state and national trends, statistics show.
The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Valdosta Thursday was $2.81, unchanged over the previous seven days, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report,
The lowest fuel price reported in the Azalea City Thursday was $2.53 per gallon a a Bemiss Road store, while the lowest price reported in Tifton that day was $2.65 per gallon at a store on U.S. 82 West and another on Tift Avenue North, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com.
Valdosta had the ninth-highest average gas price Thursday among the 15 Georgia fuel markets monitored by the auto club: below Savannah, Macon, Hinesville, Columbus, Brunswick and Atlanta but above Warner Robins, Rome, Gainesville, Dalton, Catoosa, Augusta, Athens and Albany.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline Thursday was $3.40 per gallon, down nine cents in a week, while Georgia’s average of $2.88 per gallon was down five cents in the same period, AAA said.
“We still need to cast a wary eye on global events, which may roil the oil market and spike prices,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “But domestic gas prices are amid their usual seasonal swoon. Pump prices have fallen or remained flat every day since Sept. 19.”
In Thursday’s market trading, benchmark U.S. crude oil for December delivery rose 41 cents to $75.74 per barrel Thursday. Brent crude for January delivery rose 47 cents to $80.01 per barrel.
Wholesale gasoline for December delivery rose 3 cents to $2.16 a gallon. December heating oil fell 3 cents to $2.72 a gallon. December natural gas fell 7 cents to $3.04 per 1,000 cubic feet.
