OAKLAND — Smoke alarms were credited with saving a Broadford Road mother and daughter after their home caught fire early Friday, the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal said.
Oakland and other Garrett County volunteer firefighters were called to the single-story home located at 1407 Broadford Road at 1:16 a.m. and controlled the blaze in about 20 minutes.
The fire began in the basement and caused $125,000 damage, investigators said.
The residents were able to escape the smoke-filled home after awaking to smoke detectors sounding, the fire marshal’s office said. There were no injuries.
The cause remains under investigation and the occupants are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
