So many even on the progressive side of the ledger have been making an increasingly bigger deal of Pres. Biden’s inveterate, repetitive flubs, missteps, and to them, obvious cognitive debility, or at least decline. As if that’s all there is to the man.
In fact, there’s another problem in this sadly miscast American president. You mean that he’s a career politician in the worst sense, and an obvious retailer of exaggerations and downright malarkey? No, even that doesn’t cover it.
When it comes to stumblin’, mumblin’ Joe, you’ve also got to excoriate – if at all objective – his many obvious (and really pathetic) attempts to look stern, and to exude authentic depth, and above all, the kind of gravitas one would like to see in someone occupying this important position. I.e., the real thing…
What, confirmed Bidenistas would retort in their nano-fast, deflective way, of Mr. Trump? Well yes, Trump sometimes does seem an off-the-top bloviator, no question.
But compared to Biden, he’s on the whole deeper, and in better and greater possession of supportive facts. Even if some laugh at or try to dismiss those facts. Such as – among many others – the fact that inflation has greatly worsened since Biden took over. Such as the serious, imposing and dangerous Chinese footprint in American colleges, and at key chokepoints like the Panama Canal, due to this totalitarian, expansionist entity taking advantage of American weakness at home and abroad.
Biden couldn’t even know to evince such facts in his wan, frowning efforts at purveying gravitas, and in his generally terse, vacuous way. Yet Trump will keep getting “flung at” most critics of the current president. Not to mention other Republicans like Senate Minority leader, Mitch McConnell, now himself lame-duck and finite in the position he’s held so long.
Of course McConnell like Biden has health issues, too. But he’s shown more natural gravitas in the face of repetitive media attacks, self-righteous opprobrium from across the aisle, and internecine strife perpetrated from within his own ranks. I still give him higher marks when it comes to authentic, non-feigned seriousness than Biden.
Who tries so hard to LOOK the part in his generally brief, scripted comments, but who no one in their right minds would take as the real article. Just the entire southern border mess indicates that lack of seriousness, not least in how it’s been explained away as little more than a piece of fuzz on one’s shirt!
All right, I maybe haven’t made my point too well, this person who himself stresses the importance of facts. But at the same time you don’t have to eat a factory’s worth of provolone to know its taste.
A few bites of what Pres. Biden offers gives the taste very readily, and it’s not a good one. Speaking of that, the 19th-century French writer Stendhal once remarked that bad taste leads to crime. In Biden’s case it actually has – the crime of letting in millions of unvetted, leading to dastardly acts of violence too many have committed on American soil, plus the bloated costs of supporting such entrants, costs that are as illegal as the illegals themselves.
In Biden’s case we’ve again seen plenty of ersatz, faux gravitas, but … bad taste leading to crime? I never fully grasped what Stendhal meant by that line; however, in the case of this president and supportive minions, it starts to make some sense.
The man is clearly allergic to any real depth, only comfortable, it seems, with the feigned variety. Which gives lots of people a bad taste, indeed!
His own lack of serious moral purpose (other than retention and expansion of his and his party’s power) has led to terrible, unnecessary problems in today’s America. The fact that he’s in cognitive decline and even disarray? That’s certainly sad, as many know from within their own families; but in the president’s case it’s also an excuse of sorts. It’s simply not the main event, and takes this person in such a crucial position off the hook, allowing him to be a “victim” of something other than his own character.
