Crossville residents and motorists through town have been awaiting visual evidence of progress on the sidewalk project since the first of June, and they got their first glimpse Tuesday, when concrete was poured for the first curb at S. Main and Stanley streets.
It’s been a long time coming — more than 20 years, to be exact, and city officials were on hand to witness the smoothing during a break in the Crossville City Council retreat.
The $2.497 million sidewalk project is 80% funded through a Tennessee Department of Transportation grant.
New sidewalks will be laid downtown from Lantana Rd. northward to Neecham St.
The project is due to be completed by next May.
