PORT HENRY — Emma Akey struck out nine as Saranac Lake pulled away for Moriah, 10-4, Saturday.
Her counterpart, Amelia Kazlo struck out six. The pair combined for 18 walks.
Saranac Lake’s Ayla Small and Moriah’s Alexis Mascarenas both hit doubles.
Small led the way with three hits including her double. Multiple members of the Red Storm recorded two hits: Kylee Meyer, Kasey Clark and Rori Chaneille-Shank.
“Saranac Lake came out and scored early and maintained the lead the rest of the game,” Don Tesar said. “Akey pitched very well and their lineup hit the ball well all afternoon.”

CHAMPLAIN — Down 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Bailee Lafountain helped her own cause with a triple.
She would come in to tie the game after a throwing error to first after a hit by Desiree Dubois.
Dubois would give the Cougars the lead, scoring on a fielder’s choice, and NCCS would hold on to defeat Peru, 3-2.
It became a pitching duel between Lafountain and Nighthawk Zoey Malcolm. Both struck out five and walked one as the defense behind them kept the scoring low.
Emma Guay had a multi-hit game for NCCS with one hit being a double.
Peru’s Natalia Gushlaw-Mirville and Kenzie Whitmarsh both had two hits, with Gushlaw-Mirville recording a double.
“This was a great softball game played by both teams,” McComb said. “We meet up again this week and expect another great game.”

CHAMPLAIN — The Cougars were held to two hits in their 14-1 defeat to Missisquoi (Vermont).
“NCCS played well in all but 2 innings,” NCCS head coach Carrie McComb said. “The errors we committed came at the most inopportune times that led to runs scored.
“We made contact at the plate but just could not come up with the big hits. Both pitchers that we faced were quality pitchers and are faster than what we will face in our league. It was great experience.”
The Cougars held an early 1-0 lead but Missisquoi put on runs in the third and six innings to put the game out of reach.
“We also would like to give special thanks to the MVU families for participating in our Hygiene drive for Cougar Cares program that is being newly developed by one of our players as her NHS project,” McComb said.

BOLTON — Get out of the way, the Eagles offense is coming through. That seems to be the way the season has gone for Bolton as they’ve outscored their opponents, 167-27.
It remained the case in their 28-0 win over Lake Placid.
Danica Staepel had a four hit day including one home run. Ila Hubert, Kayla Navitsky, Thea Kennedy and Sydney Hart went perfect at the place as they all had at least four hits, with Navitsky notching five.
And they weren’t just hits, they were hitting for power. Eight of the Eagles 29 hits went for extra bases.
The Eagles, standing 7-0 in the Mountain and Valley Conference, return to action Wednesday when they host fellow MVAC unbeaten Chazy as they also stand 7-0 in league play.

CHAZY 32
WILLSBORO 1 (5)
CHAZY — A no-hitter and hitting for the cycle are both rare accomplishments that players take pride in. It just so happened that Chazy’s Kennedy Columbus and Sam Gonyo recorded both of them in their 32-1 victory over Willsboro.
Through eight games played, the Eagles have outscored opponents 134-35.
Columbus recorded 11 strikeouts as she didn’t give a hit up over five innings pitched.
Gonyo’s day at the plate included a grand slam home run in the second inning, when the Eagles blew the game open while scoring 20 runs in the bottom of the inning.
It was also a special night for Pender Bechard who hit her first career home run in the game.
“I want to thank Coach Miller and the Willsboro Girls Softball Team for taking part in our annual charity benefit game,” Chazy’s head coach Cory Thompson said. “ Tonight our girls made a donation to the Chazy Athletic Association in honor and memory of their friend and classmate Owen Poirier.”
