HOOPESTON — After building a 5-0 lead by the top of the third inning, the Danville softball team let Hoopeston Area tie things up in the fifth inning.
But in the sixth, a bases-loaded walk to Ka’Leah Bellik drove in the winning run as the Vikings came away with a 6-5 win on Thursday.
Gracie Briggs had two hits and three RBIs for the Vikings, while TaeAna Boyd had an RBI. Bellik had three hits, including a triple, while Jaidyn Hardesty had two doubles and Olivia Scaggs had two hits.
Macy Warner had three hits for Hoopeston Area, while Aubreyana Inman had two hits and a RBI and Jersey Cundiff, Maddie Barnes and Kinzley Bailey each had one RBI.
The Vikings are 2-3 and will play Charleston on Tuesday, while the Cornjerkers drop to 5-1 and will play Villa Grove on Friday.
