ESSEX — Firefighters from the Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea fire departments worked in tandem early Sunday morning to extinguish a chimney fire in Essex.
The fire, first reported at 12:34 a.m., brought fire officials to a home at 41 Wood Drive in Essex, adjacent to Chebacco Lake, Manchester Fire Chief James “Jake” McNeilly said.
No injuries were reported in the incident and the homeowners were the ones who notified fire officials about the blaze, McNeilly said. He did not say what caused the fire nor did he provide an estimate of the damages to the house.
Fire officials reported the fire took about 90 minutes to bring under control.
“Essex and Manchester Fire worked on the fire that was in the chimney and fireplace,” McNeilly said.
Responding units included Essex Engines 1 and 2, Manchester Ladder 1 with a crew of three, and McNeilly.
Also responding to Essex was a pumper unit from the Hamilton Fire Department, which was responsible for covering the Essex Fire Department Headquarters during the fire response, McNeilly said.
