MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA — An 86-year-old Gloucester man faces a charge of driving drunk after his arrest following a head-on collision Monday night.
The Manchester-by-the-Sea Fire and Police Departments responded to a report of the collision on School Street near the ramp to Route 128 around 8:05 p.m.
The 86-year-old was taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital, according to police Chief Todd Fitzgerald.
Injuries sustained by the crash victims were minor, fire Chief James “Jake” McNeilly said.
The other driver refused medical treatment.
“It looks like (the 86-year-old) was in the opposite lane of travel and hit the victim head-on,” Fitzgerald said.
The man is expected to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Salem District Court, Fitzgerald said. He also faces a charge of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation.
McNeilly said Essex public safety units also responded to the scene, and that an initial request made to Beauport Ambulance for an additional ambulance was canceled.
