PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh High School hockey team opened its season on Saturday with a 6-4 non-conference loss to the Niskayuna Mohawks.
Chase Laravia scored two goals for the Hornets, while Braeden Calkins and Colby Chase each added one. James Bayer added two assists for PHS.
It marked the first varsity goals for Laravia and Chase, and the first varsity assist for Bayer.
Owen Chapple made 30 saves in the PHS nets.
PHS trailed 2-0 before rallying to tie the game in the second period and cut a 5-2 deficit to one goal late in the third before the Mohawks added an empty-net goal to seal the win.
“The first game jitters were evident and we didn’t get the start we wanted,” PHS coach Joe Tolosky said. “Credit to Niskayuna, they were a strong team.
“We had a better start to the second period to tie things up, but were unable to maintain that momentum. It’s difficult to climb yourself out of an early hole. But there was plenty to learn from, and we’ll be better for it.”
