DUNMORE, W.Va. — Petersburg overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Pocahontas County, 42-40, on Thursday night.
The Vikings (5-4), winners of three straight, trailed 17-11 after the first quarter and 29-20 at the half. They used their defense in the third period to get back into the game, holding Pocahontas to three points in the stanza to trail 32-28 entering the fourth.
In the decider, Petersburg outscored Pocahontas, 14-8, to complete the comeback and secure the road victory. Nellie Whetzel scored seven of game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter.
Abby Alt was second on Petersburg with eight points, and Addison Kitzmiller and Miley Tingler added six apiece.
Riley Polack, Shayla Bennett and Makenzie Taylor led Pocahontas in scoring with eight points each.
Petersburg is at Moorefield on Wednesday.
