ONEONTA — Orpheus Theatre opened last night with the timeless classic and beloved musical “The Sound of Music.”
Performances will continue at 1 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, in Bettiol Theater at Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center at 24 Market St. in Oneonta.
According to a media release, the production promises to captivate audiences with its enchanting melodies, heartwarming story presented entirely with local talent.
Directed by Allie Tabor-Church and Brian Ziemann, with music direction by Karen Clark-Snitchler, the Orpheus rendition of “The Sound of Music” will transport audiences to the picturesque hills of Austria, where the Von Trapp family’s journey unfolds. The production brings together a cast, crew and orchestra committed to delivering an unforgettable experience.
The cast features Rhiannon Downey as Maria Rainer, Dan O’Neil as Captain George von Trapp, Andrea Gregori as Mother Abbess, Nicole Buel as Elsa Schraeder, Zak West as Max Detweiler, and Hannah Gdovin, Yana King, Owen Meade, Adriana Ploutz, Kian Grady, Mavery Bennett, Amelia Gibson as the von Trapp children.
“The Sound of Music” with book by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse, music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, 65 and older, and $10 for children 17 and younger.
