To enhance its commitment to keeping its constituents well-informed, the Niagara Falls City School District Board of Education will be providing summaries of its bi-weekly board meetings. Here are the notes from its Nov. 9 meeting.
Superintendent Mark Laurrie presented an agenda review for the next Niagara Falls City School District Board of Education meeting to be held on Thursday.
At the meeting, the district will honor three graduates from the NFCSD as Distinguished Alumni.
The board will also vote on seven short-term contracts, including one with Open Buffalo Black Excellence Youth Engagement workshop students speak to students about diversity and acceptance.
The board will vote on 10 resolutions at the meeting. Among the resolutions are the following:
• Acceptance of funds for the Pathways in Technology Early High School Early College High School Grant
• Acceptance of grant funds for the 2023/2024 Smart Scholars Early College High School (ECHS) Grant
Superintendent’s Report
The district is right on target to spend the American Rescue Plan Act funds by the deadline of September 2024.
The district is planning a presentation on Dec. 21 on ongoing discussions with “Say Yes Buffalo.”
Three Niagara Falls High School girls softball players received scholarships: Ava White (St. Peter’s, Isabella Maynard (Ithaca) and Emilia Marra (PennWest Edinboro).
Winter sports began Monday, Nov. 13. There are eight scholar-athlete teams from the fall sports season.
The student play, “The Diary of Ann Frank,” was an excellent performance, and the drama was a huge success.
Congratulations to NFHS 11th grade student Evan DalPorto (son of NFCSD Director of Security Bryan DalPorto and Teaching Assistant Evelyn DalPorto) who stars in a movie that premiered at the Big Apple Film Festival on Nov. 8.
Thank you to the voters who voted “yes” on Proposition 1 to raise the debt ceiling for small schools, including the NFCSD.
Also, thank you to First Student Bus Associate James Brown, who maneuvered his bus to avoid what could have been a tragic accident. Mr. Brown has been invited to a board meeting.
