NORTH MANKATO — Jayde Altermatt allowed no earned runs in a complete game for the top-seeded New Ulm Cathedral softball team in a Class A semifinal game at Caswell Park on Thursday.
Abbey Hillesheim had three hits and an RBI for the Greyhounds, while Jenna Hotovec added three hits and scored a run. Ava Schmid finished with a hit and two RBIs.
In the other Class A semifinal, Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley beat West Lutheran 8-2.
The Greyhounds will play Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in the Class A final at 4 p.m. Thursday at Caswell Park.
Tennis
The Mankato East/Loyola doubles team of Madden Vanderwerf and Quinn Kelly won in the first round of the Class AA doubles tournament before losing in the quarterfinals at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
In the first round, Vanderwerf and Kelly beat Andrew Bacigalupi and Bodie Zwank of Highland Park 6-2, 6-2. They lost to Lou Smith and Samir Stolpman of Minneapolis Washburn in the quarterfinals.
Baseball
Section 2AA: Top-seeded Le Sueur-Henderson beat second-seeded Belle Plaine twice, winning 2-0 and 6-1 to claim the section title at Le Sueur.
The Giants fell to Belle Plaine earlier in the tournament, but worked their way into the final through the elimination bracket.
