PLATTSBURGH — A Morrisonville man was convicted by a jury in Clinton County Court for sex crimes against a child.
Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie said that Cheney Premore, 38, of Morrisonville, was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual act, a class B violent felony; two counts of third-degree rape and third-degree criminal sexual act, all class E felonies and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
The guilty verdict came after a week-long trial before Clinton County Court Judge William A. Favreau.
Premore was arrested following an incident in which he met a child on a social media platform, befriended that child, and then on June 26, 2023, picked her up in the City of Plattsburgh, drove to his residence and sexually assaulted her over the course of several hours, Wylie’s office said.
Wylie commended the victim who showed great courage for coming forward and testifying at trial, detailing to the jury the heinous acts of sexual assault committed against her by the defendant.
Wylie warned that this case highlights the dangers of young children and teens using social media applications.
“Unfortunately, there are individuals in our community, like Mr. Premore, who use these apps to seek out and prey upon children, our most vulnerable population,” Wylie said.
Favreau scheduled Premore to be sentenced on July 17, at 1:30 p.m. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Daniel Lennon and Jennifer Manning.
David Gervais represented the defendant.
This case was investigated by the New York State Police in collaboration with the SUNY Plattsburgh Police Department and other local police agencies.
