Veteran State Assemblyman Angelo Morinello cruised to a reelection victory Tuesday night over his challenger Niagara County Legislator Jeffrey Elder.
Morinello (R-Niagara Falls) polled 29,371 votes (61.4%) to Elder’s 18,436 (38.5%).
Neither candidate could be reached for comment on the election results.
Elder had campaigned on a platform for change.. A 26-year U.S. Air Force veteran, Elder’s military career included providing support to three different presidents while a member of the crew on Air Force One.
Returning to Niagara Falls, Elder said he felt like some things were missing and some parts of the community were getting worse.
A former judge, Morinello was first elected to the state assembly in 2016.
Morinello views the position of assemblyman as four pillars, Albany involvement, constituent services, connectivity, and community involvement. In previous interviews with the newspaper, he said he viewed the position of assemblyman as being based on four pillars — Albany involvement, constituent services, connectivity and community involvement. During his time in Albany, Morinello touted as accomplishments securing permanent funding for the Discover Niagara shuttle service, securing funds for renovations at the Aquarium of Niagara and the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center and expanding the types of crimes eligible for judicial diversion.
