MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Moorefield ran for more than 300 yards, Brock Linville scored two touchdowns and the Yellow Jackets routed Rocktown, Virginia, 37-14, on Friday.
The Yellow Jackets (1-1) fell to Frankfort, 28-7, in Week 1 but built a 34-0 lead en route to their first triumph of the season.
Rocktown, a new high school in Harrisonburg, Virginia, is playing its first season of football. The new program fell to Hedgesville, 36-13, in its opener.
Brock Linville paved the way on the ground for Moorefield with seven rushes for 82 yards and two scores. He also completed a 35-yard pass to tight end Chayse Myers.
Caleb Flinn had 11 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown, Oliver Crites had eight rushes for 59 yards and a score, and Riley Pillus toted the rock six times for 46 yards and a TD.
Zeke Eye recovered a fumble for the second straight week, and Diego Taylor intercepted a pass. Kicker Levi Davis made a 20-yard field goal and was 4 for 5 on PATs.
Moorefield is at Hampshire (1-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.
Petersburg 34, Wyoming East 7
NEW RICHMOND, W.Va. — Freshman Payton Metheny passed for 267 yards and two scores, and Petersburg routed Wyoming East Friday for its second straight win to begin the season.
Metheny completed 14 of 25 passes and didn’t throw an interception, a week after he ran for five touchdowns against Berkeley Springs.
Peyton Tingler was his top target, catching four passes for 138 yards. Kaleb Kuhn had five receptions for 77 yards, and Trace Rohrbaugh caught a touchdown.
Rohrbaugh also ran in three touchdowns on the ground.
Petersburg hosts Pendleton County on Friday at 7 p.m.
