BOYS BASKETBALL
Peabody 56, Marblehead 43: Senior Jariel Tolentino had 21 points with 12 rebounds and four assists to help the Tanners (4-3) earn a big NEC victory. Freshman Thad Broughton scored 12 along with four boards, Stephen Brown and Mark Mendonca scored 10 each, Jimmy Festa grabbed six rebounds and Aneudy Medrano had four boards and four assists.
Down by 21 points at one juncture, the Magicians fought to get within 10 but could get no closer. Junior Finn Gallup and senior captain Sam Thompson each had nine points for the hosts.
Salem 61, Winthrop 27: Nate Lane set the tone defensively with eight steals and two blocks while scoring 12 points and handing out five assists to lead the Witches to a road win. Senior Rocco Ryan was also immense on D and had eight rebounds. Scoring-wise, Elian Rodriguez led Salem with 14 points and Canei McLeod also scored 12.
Swampscott 89, Saugus 64: Connor Chiarello exploded for 34 points and the Big Blue protected their unbeaten record at 5-0 with a league triumph. Michael Lutko scored 16 and Teddy O’Neill chipped in with 10.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Peabody 7, Marblehead 1: Defenseman Mikaela O’Driscoll scored her first varsity goal and the unbeaten Tanners (5-0-1) got four from the back end with blue liner Eleni Spack scoring two and Chloe Gromko netting one. Captain Ava Buckley had a five point outburst with a goal and four helpers while senior Shirley Whitemore scored twice, both assisted by captain Mia Lava. Sophomore Ava Louanis also had her first varsity assist and ten skaters recorded a point.
Eighth grader Madi Reno had Marblehead’s goal assisted by Emilia Russo.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Peabody 56, Marblehead 32: Aliana Ryan notched 15 points with eight boards and the Tanners (2-2) out-pointed the Magicians to even their season record. Ally Bettencourt had eight with five assists and five steals, sister Avery Bettencourt scored seven with four swipes, Sophia Coburn grabbed 10 rebounds and Maia Davis chipped in six points.
Masconomet 45, Danvers 24: Angie Lalikos led a balanced attack for the Chieftains with 10 points, Shaye Vella scored nine and Masconomet had 13 total steals led by captain Riley Bovardi with three in the home win.
Jane Koulopoulos had eight points for Danvers, which just couldn’t get it going offensively. Sienna Lynch came off the bench to provide four points as well.
Saugus 34, Swampscott 23: Sophomore Cecilia Tripp had nine points but the Big Blue stumbled out of the gates in a defensive struggle to start 2025.
Burlington 66, Ipswich 24: The Tigers fell at home Monday night.
BOYS HOCKEY
Wakefield 4, Peabody/Saugus/Swampscott 1: A first period goal by was all the Tanners (3-4) could muster in a road defeat. Senior Nick Muse had the goal for his squad, assisted by captain Tyson Higgins, and goalie Dom Pappalardo turned aside 24 shots.
