The Merrimack College football team concluded its season with a convincing 19-3 win over Fordham. The Warriors finish with a 5-6 overall record in their first of two independent league seasons.
Merrimack led 9-0 after the first quarter behind a defensive safety and then a 1-yard TD run by Jermaine Corbett. Lliam Davis booted the PAT.
Fordham connected on a field goal to cut it down to 9-3 through the halftime break. Then in the third quarter, Ayden Pereira found Jalen McDonald open for a 12-yard touchdown. Then in the fourth quarter Davis booted a 21-yaerd field goal to cap the scoring.
Pereira finished the game completing 12-of-15 passes for 131 yards, while he rushed for 147 yards on 17 carries.
On the season, Pereira completed 92-of-154 passes for 1,123 yards and 8 touchdowns and also had 568 rushing yards and two touchdowns
Besides Pereira’s tremendous performance, the story of the game was Merrimack’s dominating defense. Tre Jordan III (first offensive play of the game) and Deon Houston had interceptions, while Nicholas Lenon (2 sacks) has a forced fumble. Jay Thompson had a huge game with four quarterback sacks and seven total tackles.
Also, Kendal Sims blocked a punt that went out of the back of the end zone, and Merrimack was credited with the safety.
