PERU — Police say the husband of a Peru woman, who was found dead in the trunk of a car Tuesday, has been arrested and charged in connection with her death.
Scott A. Tyrell, 58, of Peru was arraigned in Peru Town Court Friday afternoon and charged with second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse after Lisa A. Dashnaw (Tyrell), 57, was found dead in the trunk of a vehicle at a local car rental business Tuesday.
State Police said Friday that on Tuesday, May 28, they responded to Enterprise Rent a Car at the intersection of State Route 3 and Military Turnpike in the Town of Plattsburgh. A Trooper, who was on scene for an uninvolved complaint, was advised by Enterprise employees of an overdue rental car that was reclaimed under suspicious circumstances, police said.
The rental vehicle was located by Enterprise at a private residence on Dogwood Avenue in the City of Plattsburgh, and towed back to Enterprise in Plattsburgh. The tow truck operator asked the Trooper to be present when they went through the vehicle, police said.
When Enterprise employees checked the vehicle, Dashnaw was located deceased in the trunk of the vehicle.
The preliminary investigation revealed Tyrell was the last known operator of the vehicle, police said.
Tyrell was stopped by police early Friday morning in the city and was taken into custody.
Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie said that there was an incident with Tyrell as he was being taken into custody and he sustained a self-inflicted wound that required medical attention.
After Tyrell was released from the hospital, he was taken to the Plattsburgh State Police barracks and was interviewed by members of the State Police and he made admissions to “criminal conduct,” Wylie said.
He was then charged and taken to arraignment.
Court documents estimate Dashnaw’s death occurred on or about April 12, 2024.
According to an autopsy done Wednesday in Glens Falls by Dr. Michael Sikirica, the cause of Dashnaw’s death was strangulation and she was the victim of a homicide.
Tyrell, represented by Clinton County Public Defender Jamie Martineau for the arraignment, entered a plea of not guilty in court Friday.
Justice James Kirby presided over the case.
Tyrell, who was donning a large bandage around his neck during his court appearance, was then remanded to Clinton County Jail without bail. He is tentatively due back in court June 11.
