This year’s midweek Lockport Community Farmers Market, organized by Lockport Main Street Inc., features expanded programming in its third year.
The market is open at 69 Canal St. from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays until Sept. 25. This year, the local non-profit group’s midweek market features several new additions, including a series of classes and shuttles to city housing developments.
“We see a need for some more offerings at the market,” program manager Grace Platt said. “Hopefully it will not only attract new customers but also reach out to those who didn’t know we were open and available.”
A Discover Niagara Shuttle is available to transport residents of Beacon Heights Apartments, Packet Boat Landings Apartments, Autumn Gardens and Urban Park Towers to and from the market.
“We’re really trying to make the market as easy and as accessible as possible,” Platt said.
The Wednesday market that offers produce from a host of local farmers serves as a supplement to Lockport Main Street Inc.’s Saturday market. Platt said she has seen participation from local farmers and attendees grow steadily.
“Adding Wednesday to our programming means that residents have two days a week to use their SNAP benefits, double up and reap benefits of having local produce available,” Platt said.
In addition to the market’s usual lineup of vendors, adults can sign up for classes, including quilting with The Stitching Corner and wine tasting with Longcliff Winery. This week’s class is an art class held in collaboration with Vibrant Art by Veronica.
The midweek market also offers pre-order meals from local vendors including Terroir General Store, Ashley’s Culinary Creations and Gypsy Kitchen.
