A Pine Avenue liquor store owner was taken to a hospital Saturday night after they were assaulted while trying to stop a shoplifting attempt.
Falls police responded to the business about 11:20 p.m. Saturday where the owner told them a frequent customer had come in about 11:15 p.m., grabbed a bottle and walked out without paying for the liquor. While trying to retrieve the item, the owner said the suspect punched him and hit him in the head with the bottle.
Due to the nature of the injury, the victim, who suffered a cut ear, was taken to Mount St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
Police were shown video surveilance of the incident and were able to track down Daniel J. Stewart, 66, of Main Street, who was charged with two felonies — second-degree robbery and second-degree assault. Stewart was also charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief.
