YOUNGSTOWN — Two teams added more hardware to its trophy cases.
Lewiston-Porter boys and Niagara Wheatfield girls cross country won both the Niagara Frontier League individual and team championships Saturday at Lewiston-Porter High School.
With a score of 55 points, the Lancers finished NFL meets with an unbeaten 9-0 record and secured their first league title since co-sharing with Lockport in 2018, their eighth overall since 1967. Niagara Wheatfield finished second with 64 points and Kenmore East finished third with 77 points, while Grand Island (82) and Kenmore West (117) rounded out the top five.
Individually, Lew-Port senior Leo Clark ran the top time of 16 minutes, 7.43 seconds, over 51 seconds faster than the field. Clark not only defended his title but also broke his personal best in the league championship from last year(16:53.87).
Kenmore East’s Sam Clark finished second at 16:58.14, while Kenmore West’s Max Stinner placed third at 17:07.15. Niagara Wheatfield’s Nicholas Morgan (17:13.07) and Xavier Severance (17:26.46) rounded out the top-five.
On the girls side, Niagara Wheatfield won the league title outright for a third straight year and fourth overall since 2021 with a total of 32 points. The Falcons also clinched their fifth total league banner, all since 1993, and finished the season 8-0 in league and 16-0 overall.
Lockport finished second with 64 points and Niagara Falls placed third with 90 points. Lew-Port (97) and Grand Island (121) rounded out the top-five.
Individually, Niagara Wheatfield sophomore Teaghan Brady won with a time of 20:02.30. After finishing runner-up two years ago, Brady defended her title and broke her personal best from last year of 20:25.87.
Teammate and freshman Emily Desiderio placed second with a time of 20:13.08 and Kenmore West’s Charlotte Brach finished third at 20:42.17. Lockport sophomore Marin Connor placed fourth at 20:42.17, while Grand Island junior Charlotte Tower finished fifth at 20:53.05.
The Section VI championships are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora.
