Dear Editor,
I would like to bring to the attention of your readers a recent decision made by the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners that impacts the Carbondale community. It will eventually impact the whole south end of Whitfield County.
The Carbondale and Tilton communities have already been very much affected by development. We already have a Carbondale Business Park which houses a huge Qcells operation. There’s also a Pilot Truck Stop. Engineered Floors has a large operation on lower Dug Gap Road. Now, rezoning on Carbondale Road of almost 47 acres has been approved for heavy manufacturing by the board for DixiBrix. All these businesses have created lots of transfer truck traffic and has created safety concerns for residents.
There seems to be no regard for the residents who live in these areas. The south end of the county is becoming a concrete jungle.
People need to just be vigilant about who you vote for. Be aware of what’s taking place in your communities. If it profits developers and big business it will be nothing for them to take over and destroy. Zoning and rezoning laws have short lives and a limited time to respond. Those laws need to change.
